Pakistan General Election 2013
The Islamic republic of Pakistan witnessed general elections today on 11th may 2013 for choosing the parliamentarians for the term of next 5 years. The general public today has elected the members of national assemblies and the four provincial assemblies which are Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Baluchistan. This is for the first time that nation has gone into elections after completing the five years of democratic term.
Election commission of Pakistan is the institution that conducts the election in the Pakistan. The procedure is quite long which starts from voter registration, announcing the date of general elections, polling staff recruitment, Providing machinery and announcing results.
The election campaign was started about 20 days before the elections in which all the parties who were contesting elections arranged campaign including rallies and public gatherings where they told the people how will they change everything. All the parties prepared their manifestos and put in front of the public so that they can choose their representatives.
Main parties contesting elections are Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian. Among other are Jamiat-e-Ulma-e-Islam, Muttahida Qomi Movement, Jamaat e Islami, Awami national Party and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam.
One very important thing that was seen today was the involvement of youth in elections and voter turn out. The youth of Pakistan has never shown such enthusiasm ever in the history of elections in Pakistan. The experts are suggesting that this was one of record turnout. Especially in urban areas, many women and young boys and girls casted their vote and took a great step towards Democracy.
The results are not compiled yet but from the unofficial sources Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz is leading in many constituencies followed by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and Pakistan People’s Party. Whatever the result may be or whoever formulates the result, one thing is for sure that Democracy has won today in Pakistan.
